Lunar Sabbath Rebuttal 6
Exodus 12:6-8 (NKJV) “Now you shall keep it [Passover lamb] until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight [towards the end of 14th]. 7And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it. 8Then they shall eat the flesh on that night [of the 15th]; roasted in fire [on Preparation Day, the 14th], with unleavened bread [the 15th is the 1st day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread] and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.”
Exodus 12:18 (NKJV) “In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening [beginning of the 15th day], you shall eat unleavened bread [on the 15th], until the twenty-first day of the month at evening [to the end of the 21st, sunset on the 21st].” The Feast of Unleavened Bread is a seven day feast, from the 15th through the 21st of Abib. Abib 14 is Preparation Day, a work day, not a feast day.
The fourteenth of the first month is Preparation Day, NOT THE PASSOVER FEAST DAY. The baking of unleavened bread and slaughtering and roasting of the sacrificial lamb took place on Preparation Day, the 14th day of the first month of the Hebrew year, which is the month of Abib, or Nisan. We do not sit down to the Passover Meal/Feast until after sunset on the fourteenth, which begins the 15th of Abib, the Passover Feast and first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, a Feast Sabbath celebration day.
The children of Israel escaped Egyptian slavery on the 15th of Abib in the year of the Exodus. Numbers 33:3 (NKJV) “They departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the day after the Passover [day after Preparation Day, day after the 14th] the children of Israel went out with boldness in the sight of all the Egyptians.” Notice that they did not sit down and have a Passover Feast in the land of Egypt that year, they ESCAPED, they ran, they fled from Pharaoh and their tormenting slave drivers. The Feast of Unleavened Bread celebrates their 24 hour a day, 7 day forced military like march to the Red Sea. They were fleeing for their lives!
From Exodus 16 we learned that the Manna Miracle Sabbath resynchronization test began on the 16th of the second month from leaving Egypt, 2-16, or Ziv or Iyar 16. The Israelites then ate manna and observed the manna synchronized seventh day Sabbath for forty years. Exodus 16:35 (NKJV) “And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.” Joshua 5:6a (NKJV) “For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people who were men of war, who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they did not obey the voice of Yahweh. . . “
Believe what you will, but Yahweh defined the day in Genesis 1:5 (NKJV) “Yahweh called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. Yahweh then defined the work week, or Sabbath Week, or Shabuwa, in Genesis 2:2-3 (NKJV) “And on the seventh day Yahweh ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3Then Yahweh blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which the Mighty Ones had created and made.” Days are defined by the sun, sunset to sunset is a day. A Shabuwa is 7 solar days of evening to evening. No moon, or lunar calendar, is involved in the determination of the day, or the Shabuwa, the Sabbath Week. This Shabuwa is known as the Law of Shabuwa, the law Yahweh refers to in Exodus 16:4 (NKJV) “Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law [What law? The Law of Shabuwa.] or not.” and in Exodus 16:28 (NKJV) “And Yahweh said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws?”” What laws? The laws of Shabuwa, the Sabbath Week, work six days, rest on the seventh. Yahweh used the Manna Miracle to get the resynchronization of the manna synchronized Sabbath lesson across. Exodus 16:26 (NKJV) “Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, which is the Sabbath, there will be none.” Yahweh patiently gave this 40 year test over 2,084 Shabuwas, or Sabbath weeks. Never call my Mighty One impatient! Did the Israelites learn the Shabuwa lesson? Apparently, the modern Jews still observe it, and informed Gentiles do also.
I’ve put together a little spreadsheet to show how the lunar Sabbath fails on the third Sabbath established on the manna synchronized Sabbath schedule found in Exodus 16, work six days and rest on the seventh day. Lunar Sabbatarians claim that the 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th of each lunar month is a Sabbath. By definition therefore, the 1st also must be a Sabbath. You can clearly and easily see that by coincidence the first two manna synchronized Sabbaths line up with the lunar Sabbatarians lunar Sabbath theory on the 22nd and the 29th of the 2nd month, but once the Israelites reached the third manna synchronized Sabbath, only three weeks from the resynchronization of the manna synchronized Sabbath to Yahweh’s Law of Shabuwa, the manna synchronized Sabbath no longer lines up with the lunar calendars. The 3rd manna synchronized Sabbath occurred on 3-6 on one lunar calendar and on 3-7 on each of the other two lunar calendars. According to the Lunar Sabbatarian theory, that 3rd manna synchronized Sabbath should have occurred either on the 1st or the 8th of the 3rd month, BUT IT DID NOT. The following spreadsheet clearly reveals the obvious failure of the lunar Sabbath calendar theory.

TRAVEL ON THIS DAY, ISRAEL DID NOT OBSERVE SABBATH, BECAUSE YAHWEH HAD NOT YET TOLD THEM TO KEEP HIS SABBATH LAW FROM GENESIS 2:2-3.

Sabbath
The full spreadsheet has more text to the right of these columns with the Scripture references. This spreadsheet blows away the Lunar Sabbath theory as good as anything that I’ve read. The moon is used to determine the beginning of our religious year, our Hebrew months, and the annual seasonal Feasts of Yahweh. The sun is used to determine the day and solar year. Yahweh defined the holy Shabuwa in Genesis 2:2-3. I don’t know how to make it any plainer than what I’ve just shown you.
To date I may not have thoroughly explained Joshua 5:10-12 (NKJV) “Now the children of Israel camped in Gilgal, and kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight [Abib 14] on the plains of Jericho. 11And they ate of the produce [Hebrew word means old stored grain] of the land on the day after the Passover [Abib 15], unleavened bread and parched grain, on the very same day [Abib 15]. 12Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce [old stored grain] of the land [the 16th was the regular weekly Sabbath day that year!]; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food [new crop yield] of the land of Canaan that year.” What you need to know is that the Hebrew word translated as “produce” in verses 11 and 12, means specifically old stored grain, not freshly harvested abib grain. So what am I saying? That Preparation Day of Abib 14, the Israelites cracked open Canaanite storage bins/sheds, ground old stored grain into barley or wheat flour and baked unleavened bread from the old stored grain of the land for the Passover Feast eaten on the night of Abib 15, which began at the evening of the 14th, or end of the 14th. When I first looked at this passage in the KJV or NKJV I saw three Feast days being talking about, but in reading other translations, it is apparent that Passover is spoken of as the 15th, not the 14th, which is just the Preparation Day, kill the lamb and cook it, grind grain and bake unleavened bread, a special work day to prepare for the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which has come to be called just Passover.
As we saw in the Scripture passages at the beginning of this post, Passover the Feast is celebrated on the 15th, which is translated as the fourteenth at evening. The end of the fourteenth begins the fifteenth day of the month. The day after the 15th is of course the 16th of Abib. The manna ceased the day after eating unleavened bread on the 15th at the Feast, baked that year from OLD STORED GRAIN of the land of Canaan. The day after the 15th was the 16th, which I have proposed for a couple years now as the weekly manna synchronized Sabbath day that year. Joshua 5:10-12 is talking about 3 days, 2 Feast days, 1 preparation day! So, the 16th of Abib was the regular weekly Sabbath day that year, as revealed by the manna having ceased, or rested! The Feast of First Fruits would then have been observed on the first day of the next Shabuwa, Abib 17 that year, which was the day after the regular manna synchronized Sabbath that occurred during Passover week, according to Yahweh’s commandment! Isn’t that amazing and isn’t Yahweh a wonderful provider? Praise His holy Name forever!!
Here’s how it reads in the Jerusalem Bible, Joshua 5:10-12, “The Israelites pitched their camp at Gilgal and kept the Passover there on the fourteenth day of the month [14th, Preparation Day, slaughter the lamb and cook it], at evening in the plain of Jericho [the 15th, sit down and eat the Feast of Passover during night of the 15th]. On the morrow of the Passover they tasted the produce [old stored grain] of that country, unleavened bread and roasted ears of corn, that same day [the 15th, the 1st day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread]. From that time, from their first eating of the produce [old stored grain] of that country, the manna stopped falling [meaning no manna on the 16th, the weekly Sabbath, exactly in accord with the Manna Miracle]. And having manna no longer, the Israelites fed from that year onward on what the land of Canaan yielded.” They began harvesting fresh grain on the first day of the week, the 17th, for the Feast of First Fruits offering and for eating the rest of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the 17th through the 21st.
Here’s Young’s Literal Translation, Joshua 5:10-12 (YLT) “And the sons of Israel encamp in Gilgal, and make the passover on the fourteenth day of the month [14th], at evening [now the 15th], in the plains of Jericho; 11and they eat of the old [stored grain] corn of the land on the morrow of the Passover [15th], unleavened things and roasted corn, in this self-same day [15th]; 12and the manna doth cease on the morrow in their eating of the old corn [old stored grain] of the land [16th, the Weekly Sabbath day that year], and there hath been no more manna to the sons of Israel, and they eat of the increase [freshly harvested grains, new crop yield] of the land of Canaan in that year.”
Since the 15th is the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, it is a Feast Sabbath. The Israelites would not have harvested ANYTHING on a Feast Sabbath rest and celebration day. The unleavened bread they ate on the 15th at the Passover Feast that year was from OLD STORED GRAIN found in the land of Canaan, which is what the word “produce”, or “corn”, in verses 11 and 12 means in the Hebrew. The Israelites would not have harvested any grain on Abib 16 either, since it was the regular weekly manna synchronized Sabbath day that Shabuwa and year. They began the annual barley harvest on Abib 17, the first day of the next Shabuwa, after the priests first cut some sheaves for the wave sheaf offering to Yahweh, the Feast of First Fruits. The fear of Israel was upon the peoples of the land of Canaan that year, I doubt anyone got in the way of the Israelites harvesting grain from their new land.
Blessings in this upcoming holy day season,
Gene Benjamin II
