Holy Spirit
Person or Thing, a short study
John 4:23-24, “But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him. 24Yehovah is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
In the Greek, verse 24 states “Yehovah Spirit”. I’m pretty sure you all believe Yehovah the Father is a Person. I’m pretty sure you all believe Yeshua the Son is a Person. Here it says Yehovah is a Spirit, which of course would be holy. So, how can you say that Yehovah’s Holy Spirit is not a Person? The Holy Spirit speaks, acts, feels, just like other people do. How can you blaspheme a rock, or bucket, or pottery jar, or clump of grapes? You cannot blaspheme an it, you blaspheme a person. Matthew 12:31, “Therefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy the Spirit shall not be forgiven unto men.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20, “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit in you, whom ye have of Yehovah, and ye are not your own? 20For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify Yehovah in your body, and in your spirit, which are His.”
It sure sounds like I have a Person living inside of me.
2 Corinthians 13:11-14, “Finally, brethren, farewell. Be restored, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the Divine One of love and peace shall be with you. 12Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13All the saints greet you. 14The grace of the Master Yeshua Messiah, and the love of Yehovah, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.”
Can you have fellowship with a stick or a leaf? You fellowship with a Person, not a thing. The word for fellowship in this verse is koinonia, meaning partnership, communion, social intercourse, intimacy, association, community, joint participation. You don’t have koinonia with a thing, only with another person.
Romans 8:26-27, “Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27And He searching the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of Yehovah.”
I do not know of any thing or it that prays for me.
John 16:7-8, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter (Intercessor) will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8And when he is come, he will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:”
I have never been convicted of sin by a lamp post or door knob.
