10 Commandments

I want to be honest with you, dear reader, I’ve struggled with memorizing the 10 Commandments my whole believing life, going on 50 years now. None of my early pastors or Sunday School teachers ever helped me memorize the 10 Commandments. That may not have been such a bad idea, since the Catholic Church has the list wrong, and her daughter so-called Christian Church denominations have the list wrong. Let’s see if we can come to an agreed upon corrected list of the actual written 10 Commandments, as seen in Exodus 20:1-17.

Exodus 20:1-2, “The Almighty spoke all these words: 2“I am Yahuwah your Divine One, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.”

Believe it or not, the FIRST COMMANDMENT is found right here in verse 2. Yahuwah is declaring himself as the Israelite’s Deliverer and Savior, so believing in the Great I AM is the FIRST COMMANDMENT! Just read it over and over and meditate on this concept for a moment until it soaks in. Hebrews 11:6, “Now without faith it is impossible to please Yahuwah. For it is necessary that anyone coming to Yahuwah must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who worshipfully seek him.”

1 – BELIEVE IN YAHUWAH, or believe Yahuwah.

The SECOND COMMANDMENT is found in verses 3-6, “You must have no other deities before me. 4You must not make for yourself a carved figure nor the likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water below. 5You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, Yahuwah your Divine One, am a Jealous Almighty (El Qanna). I punish the ancestors’ wickedness by bringing punishment on the descendants, to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me. 6But I show covenant faithfulness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

2 – NO IDOLATRY.

The THIRD COMMANDMENT is found in verse 7, “You must not swear an oath in the name of Yahuwah your Divine One without keeping it, for Yahuwah will not hold guiltless anyone who swears an oath in my name and does not keep it.”

3 – NO FALSE OATHS.

The FOURTH COMMANDMENT is found in verses 8-11, “Remember the Sabbath day, to set it apart to me. 9You must labor and do all your work for six days. 10But the seventh day is a Sabbath for me, Yahuwah your Divine One. On it you must not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your livestock, nor your sojourning alien who is within your gates. 11For in six days, I, Yahuwah, made the heavens, earth, and sea, and everything that is in them, and then rested on the seventh day (Gen. 2:2). Therefore, I, Yahuwah, blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart to myself.”

Everyone knows this one, this is Yahuwah’s commandment that virtually the whole world ignores, rejects, refuses to accept, submit to, obey, or even hints at trying to keep or follow. The SABBATH of the SEVENTH DAY HAS NOT BEEN AND CANNOT BE DONE AWAY WITH or rescinded or repealed or overturned by any court. You might as well get used to observing the seventh day Sabbath, we will be observing it during the Millennial Reign of Messiah Yeshuwah for the next 1,000 years and then on into eternity. The Sabbath was set apart over 4,000 years before the Torah was given on Mt. Sinai.

Isaiah tells us plainly in 66:23-24, “It will be from month to month, and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all people will come to bow down to me in worship,” says Yahuwah. 24“They will go out and see the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me, for the maggots that eat them will not die, and the fire that consumes them will not be quenched; and it will be an abhorrence to all flesh.” See also Ezekiel 46, describing our worship during the Millennial Reign of Messiah Yeshuwah. Hebrews 4:9, “Therefore, there is still Sabbath-keeping for Yahuwah’s people.”

4 – KEEP, OBSERVE, OBEY THE SABBATH.

The FIFTH COMMANDMENT is found in Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live a long time in the land which I, Yahuwah your Divine One, am giving you.” Especially people young enough to still have their parents living on this earth, honor them.

5 – HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.

The SIXTH COMMANDMENT is found in verse 13, “You must not murder anyone.”

6 – NO MURDER OF HUMANS.

The SEVENTH COMMANDMENT is found in verse 14, “You must not commit adultery.” For clarity, 2 Thessalonians 2:3, “Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not come, until after the falling away comes, then the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction (Anti-messiah).”

7 – NO SEXUAL IMMORALITY. No spiritual adultery. No apostatizing.

The EIGHTH COMMANDMENT is found in verse 15, “You must not steal from anyone.”

8 – NO STEALING, thievery, scamming, or fraud of any kind.

The NINTH COMMANDMENT is found in verse 16, “You must not give false testimony against your neighbor.”

9 – NO FALSE WITNESS, no lying against your family, friend or enemy, especially in a court of law.

The TENTH COMMANDMENT is found in verse 17, “You must not covet your neighbor’s house; you must not covet your neighbor’s wife, his male servant, his female servant, his ox, his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

10 – NO COVETOUSNESS, no lusting for other people’s things, no greediness for material wealth, no reprehensible acquisitiveness, or insatiable desire for wealth.

Read Deuteronomy 5 for a second witness of this great list of the 10 Commandments.
